Draft Complete- Teams and
Schedules Announced And with the 1st pick of the 2009 draft Team Suave selects.... John Beck. The remaining first round picks were #2 BLTP- Alex Karoly, #3 Los Borrachos- Jay McCracken, and #4 Los Machos- Blake Skinner. Go to the 'teams' section to see what team drafted you. Games start Sunday at 6:00 and 7:15. The draft is done. Now let's take a look at the teams.
Better Late Than Pregnant
Got to hand it to Harig for one of the more creative team names.
Certainly didn't care to join the other Spanish inspired
options.
Attack-BLTP will have some fire power at attack with #2
overall pick Alex Karoly and team captain Harig goal scoring
won't be a problem.
Defense- The defense will be lead by Bajec between the pipes. Bajec had a strong summer last year and looked good enough last weekend to be selected by BTLP. The defenders are young but solid. Look for the consistent, athletic play of Thomae to frustrate attacks and wonder how the ball got to the BLTP side of the field so fast. With the physical play Daniels, Byron, Fisher, and Thomae you see attackmen think twice about dodging and actually wearing shoulder pads. Midfield- The BLTP midfield is a bit young which can be a huge advantage when the older guys are slowing down. Regardless I'm sure Doc Shepherd and Monnich will have them pumped up and ready play. Preseason Power Ranking #2 Transition well and they will take the #1 spot.
Los Borrachos
The Onion is back and drafted wisely tough I would have rather
seen his team name be Team Cebolla.
Attack- With experience finishers like Lagudi and Plumhoff, young athletes in Villa and Elizondo, and the possiblity of McCracken, Anderson, Huser, or Gutierrez taking a shift... They might surprise some defenses. Tons of options here. Lagudi just might be the sneakiest goal scorer in league. Defense- Alexander, Anderson, Lowe, Desbrow... Uh... I'll give you a hint. They're big and the like to slide. Or should I say hit. Looks like it will be goal tending by committee with Peoples, Desbrow, and Henriques. Midfield- the Borroacho midfielders look to be good at transition with Shelley and Gamez and McCracken and Gutierrez will put put some points on the board on the offensive end. If Maloney and Huser show they could have one of the deeper midfields. Preseason Power Ranking #1 This blue color-like team might just be the right fit for each other.
Lost Machos
There were more than a few disappointed when captain Seiterle
strayed from the tradition of diseased team names.
Attack- Big Bill and Leise are the anchors. They young guys will need to step up. Watch out for the crafty, lefty Thomae.
Defense- The Machos defense will be lead by top drafted
defenseman Skinner. With Biela, Kauffman, and Dukes around him
and McDonough in cage... could be a surprisingly tough D.
Midfield- Only 5 middies on the roster. Not to worry Seiterle is good at the double shifts. They will certainly be strong at faceoffs. When Seiterle isn't grunting his way to a power clamp, Maloney and Minard are two of the best. Oh and these middies might score a few goals too. Preseason Power Ranking #3 Solid team, but goals may be hard to come by for los machos.
Team Suave
Finally a new team name for Bubel.
Attack- #1 overall pick Beck will likely take over the duties of primary goal scorer. There are several other multi-position players who may need to take a shift. Walling and Golden will be key to attacks success. Defense- Um... who needs defenders. There is only one true defender on the roster, DeLeon. Again look for guys like Campbell, Tauzin, Dabkowski, and Nelson to help out defensively. At least they have last years #1 pick Gramatges in cage. Midfield- By far the deepest midfield group of the bunch. Some will be needed for other positions. Watch out for Burks and Bubel they'll be needed on both sides of the field. My guess is they'll be there. Preseason Power Ranking #4 - Too many holes to fill. Once they do, they won't be tired. Get Ready For Summer Lacrosse! Plenty of Sun & Fun on the way.
