Weekly Update- Posted 5:00 PM June 12
The Season started with Team Suave and BLTP and it was close one. The teams took the field with lots of shooters, but it turned in to a defensive struggle. Both teams looked a bit rusty and struggled to find the team chemistry need to produce goals. After regulation had ended the score was tied. Not long into the extra period, Hunter Cofoid scored the game winner giving the first victory (4-3 OT) of the season to Team Suave.
The second game was the exact opposite, at least for one team. Los Machos moved the ball well and looked like they had been practicing for weeks. El Macho defense and goalie James McDonough held los Borrachos scoreless. Los Borrachos looked the rustiest of them all and just couldn’t connect with eachother on the field. Blame it on the too much or too little borrachoness, but to not score a goal in a summer league competition es muy triste. The final score was 7-0 and it wasn’t even as close as the score makes it seem.
There have been some allegations of pre-draft recruiting violations by Los Machos, but league officials have cleared Seiterle and his team of any wrong doing. The allegations probably came from one of the disgruntled Borracho.
Week 2
June 14 Games
6:00 Team Suave vs. Los Machos
7:15 Los Borrachos vs. BLTP
#1 Los Machos take over the coveted number one spot in this week’s Power Ranking. Last Sunday they absolutely destroyed Los Borrachos 7-0. This week they face Team Suave. Beating them will give them sole ownership of the ranks of the undefeated. They just play like they did last week and it’s a done deal.
#2 Team Suave took exception to being ranked #4 in the preseason ranking opening the season with their overtime win over BLTP. The win bumped them two spaces up the charts. The experience utility players really stepped up and got the job done. Week two won’t be so easy. Matching up again Los Machos will be a good test to see if the they have what it takes.
#3 BLTP got off to a slow start. The big offensive guns never got going during week one as they lost the season opener to Team Suave in overtime. Don’t expect this team to be held to so few goals. Week two’s game vs. Los Borrachos will be a great opportunity to put some goals on the board and get a win.
#4 Los Borrachos- Let face the sobering fact that they fell flat with a disappointing, brutal lose last Sunday vs. Los Machos. The certainly were not deserving of the #1 preseason ranking. They drop from 1st to last and become one of the few teams on record to not score a single goal in a summer league game. The best put than one behind them, start over, and focus on week two’s game vs. BLTP.
